• Depression

Depression is more than just crying a lot. Symptoms include, feelings of hopelessness & worthlessness. Not being interested in activities you used to enjoy. Irritability & anxiety as well as changes in eating and sleeping patterns. Depression is treated with a combination of therapies to include CBT, mindfullness, behavioral activation, positive psychology and more.

• Generalized Anxiety

If you find yourself worrying about everything all the time you might have anxiety.  Some people feel they have to worry to prevent 'bad' things from happening. Anxiety is easily treated with CBT therapy. Mindfulness therapy and cardio exercise are also extremely helpful.

• Social Anxiety

We used to just say a person was really shy. Now we call it social anxiety. Feeling awkward and self-conscious. Being so worried about people judging you that it's almost impossible to talk to a person. Avoiding social engagements because you don't know what to say. Social anxiety is also easily treatable, primarily with CBT.

• Panic Attacks

People with panic attacks often end up in the ER because they think they are having a heart attack. Often, people will start avoiding situations where there is the possibility of having a panic attack. Panic attacks usually go hand in hand with other anxiety disorders. Although panic attacks can't be 'cured' they can be managed.

• Phobias

Phobias are an overwhelming, irrational fear of an object or situation. Maybe it's spiders or needles or driving over bridges.  Phobias come in all shapes and sizes but are treatable. Phobias are also usually accompanied with generalized anxiety and are treated with CBT, mindfulness and desensitization therapy.

• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

OCD is a disorder where people have obsessive thoughts and/or compulsive behaviors. I describe OCD as a 'brain hiccup.' A persons brain tells them they have to 'check' something and than they can relax-only they never relax. Or they have to wash their hands to be germ free-only there isn't enough hand washing to feel germ free. OCD is treatable with a combination of CBT therapy and medication but can never be truly cured.

• Couples Counseling

Some couples get stuck in a rut. Sometimes you find yourself repeating the same argument day in and day out and unable to hear or be heard. I help couples reconnect and rediscover the love and strength of their relationship. It's truly a beautiful change to be able to witness.

• Adolescent Counseling

Teens struggle with all kinds of situations. Puberty often sparks the first symptoms of anxiety and depression. Insecurity, uncertainty, struggling to be themselves but still fit in. Trying to stay connected to their family and yet find their independence. Adolescence is truly a challenge for the teens and their families. Star and I love working with teens and helping them learn to be empowered and use daily coping skills.

• Addiction & Recovery

Insanity is sometimes defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Addiction is similar. If you find drinking or drug use interferes with your daily life. If people or employers (or law enforcement) have expressed concern over your use, maybe it's time to get help. I work with people who are actively trying to recover but also with people that think they might have a problem but aren't really sure.

• Work and Career issues

Sometimes people feel stuck. They aren't happy with the direction their life is going in but aren't sure what to do or where to go next. I love helping people explore who they are rediscover passions and a zest for living.

• Stress Management

Ever wonder why some people are resilient? Why life can hand them a basket full of lemons and they skip away with a pitcher of lemonade? Stress resilience can be learned. I can help you learn to feel empowered and in control of your life.

• Self-Esteem

One of my favorite things to do is to help people discover what is amazing about themselves. People are endlessly unique and fascinating. Some people have been told they don't matter for so long they start believing it. I help those people identify their strengths and help them feel empowered.
